Ακουσα τη μουσική από το video με ψυχεδελικό ροκ και είπα να κάνω ένα αφιερωματάκι να βάλω κάτι από αυτή την μουσική και προσθέτετε και σεις ότι σας αρέσει
Just a presentation I did on Acid/Psychedelic Rock. All video sequences are taken from youtube, so if your video is in here, thank you.
Here's the script that goes with it:
In the mid 1950's, Bill Hailey created what would become one of the
most influential genres of music of all time. It was called Rock and Roll.
Up until the 1960's, Rock and Roll stars were very clean-cut; as were the songs.
Stars like Bobby Day, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Perry Como, and Roy Hamilton
controlled the airwaves, their music being adored by teenagers all across America.
However, in 1964, a band called the Holy Modal Rounders released a cover of the 20's song "Hesitation Blues," changing the word "Hesitation" in the chorus to "Psychedelic." This was the first time this term had been used in popular music. Following suit, a band called Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions from San Francisco California switched from Acoustic music to Electric Music in 1965, renaming themselves the warlocks. However, a month later they changed their name once more, to The Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead played to Light Shows at Acid Tests, which were psychedelic parties centered around experimentation and use of LSD. Because of this, the sound of The Grateful Dead soon came to be called Acid Rock.
As acid rock became more popular, so did psychedelic rock. Other bands came on the scene, though few were quite as progressive as a certain Psychedelic rock band known as Jefferson Airplane. Led by songstress Grace Slick, Jefferson Airplane became one of the most well known bands in Rock history. Their song, White Rabbit, described the effects of an LSD trip.
Another well-known band within the Psychedelic rock scene was Cream. They were best known for their guitarist, Eric Clapton. Their music was a hybrid of Blues, pop, and Psychedelic rock. Their live performances also influenced bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath. Their performances sometimes even included 20-minute-long jams. Some of their most famous songs included Sunshine of Your Love, I Feel Free,, Badge, and Crossroads. Unlike the Jefferson Airplane song, the Cream song "White Room" is not about an LSD trip, though it may have been written on an LSD trip.
In 1967, a fairly unknown band known as Iron Butterfly released an album called "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" The song, which shared the album's title, was a 17-minute long track recorded by bandmates Doug Ingle on keyboard and lead vocals, Lee Dorman on bass, Ron Bushy on drums, and 17-year-old Erik Braunn on guitar. The song also has one of the most memorable guitar riffs in music history.
In 1969, a well-known psychedelic rock band called The Who released an album that would change music forever. The album, entitled Tommy, was the first full-scale Rock Opera ever to be created. It tells the story of Tommy Walker, a boy who becomes deaf, mute, and blind after witnessing the murder of his mother's lover. Over the course of the opera, Tommy is visited by some not-so-nice family members including Cousin Kevin, a sadist and Uncle Ernie, a pedophile. Tommy finds love, however, in playing pinball, and becomes a "pinball wizard" beating even the champion at the game. Tommy broke a lot of ground in music, and much of the music and rock musicals we have today wouldn't exist if it weren't for Tommy.
Woodstock was a music festival that occured in 1969. It drew hundreds of thousands of hippies from all over the country, and featured not only psychedelic and acid rock, but LSD as well. It is probably one of the most important events in music history.
The Beatles, though they did not focus on the genre, did produce some very Psychedelic Rock music. Their album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is considered a prime example of Psychedelic rock, along with the songs "Strawberry Fields Forever, Yellow Submarine, and Tomorrow Never Knows"
