Fotis Katsikaris officially named Dynamo St. Petersburg new head coach - Jun. 29, 2005 - by Marina Sorokina
BC Dynamo St. Petersburg has officially confirmed that Fotis Katsikaris will become FIBA Europe League Champions 2004/05 head coach.
The contact is signed for “2+1” year scheme. Katsikaris left AEK Athens last Friday. He worked there for 2 years as a head coach and finished second with his team in the Greek League–2004/05. As it was officially confirmed that Katsikaris is no longer AEK coach, Dynamo St. Petersburg offered him the job and yesterday received an agreement of the specialist who was also wanted by the Spanish side TAU Ceramica to become Dynamo SPb head coach.
Katsikaris was assistant coach of AEK in 1999-2001 (under Dusan Ivkovic) and 2001-2003 (under Dragan Sokota) that gave him great coaching experience. During that time AEK won the Greek League-2001/02, Greek Cup – 2000 and 2001 and Saporta Cup – 2000. Last season Katsikaris not only succeeded with AEK to become 2nd in the national championship but also got to ULEB Euroleague Top-16 round where AEK failed to qualify for the quarterfinals only because of “+/-” differences with ‘Benetton Treviso’ and ‘Efes Pilsener’.
Commenting on his appointment as Dynamo St. Petersburg head coach Fotis Katsikaris said:
“I’m really excited and proud to become ‘Dynamo St. Petersburg’ head coach. It’s a great honour for me to have received and accepted this offer. The job in St. Petersburg team was interesting to me because of club’s ambitions, goals and achievements. Dynamo SPb. wants to be in Russian and European elite and that’s what interests me.
It was also really important to me that the team has a great combination of extremely talented youngsters and well-known and experienced players. It’s completely follows my basketball philosophy and ideas. Now I’m can’t wait to start working and really excited about the upcoming season as I feel my new team is strong enough to compete and be successful”.
Vladimir Rodionov, Dynamo St. Petersburg General Director also commented on the Katsikaris appointment to the club’s official web-site: “I’m truly pleased that we’ve signed Fotis Katsikaris . He’s one of the most talented coaches and I think he’s of a great potential. Katsikaris is extremely attentive about working with youngsters and I completely support that. We have common views on the young players development as they can become real stars in future. I already know that Dynamo St. Petersburg players are very enthusiastic about Katsikaris appointment. I’m sure that we’ll give lots of positive emotions to our fans and negative – to our opponents. Fotis will soon come to St. Petersburg to get fully acquainted with me and the city and will start his job in August when team starts it’s practicing”.

Tην τεχνική ηγεσία της Ντινάμο Αγίας Πετρούπολης ανέλαβε για τα επόμενα 2+1 χρόνια ο Φώτης Κατσικάρης. (θυμίζω ότι το 2001 στην Ευρωλίγκα έπαιζαν οι St. Petersburg Lions που είχαν φτιαχθεί γι'αυτόν το λόγο)
Φέτος η ομάδα κέρδισε το Fiba EuroLeague.
