When February started, the continent's most-crowned team over the last decade, Panathinaikos, had plenty of unfinished business in the Euroleague. With two regular season games to play, the Greens still needed to win once just to be sure of even reaching the Top 16. By the end of February, Panathinaikos could celebrate a three-game win streak, a second-place finish in its regular season group and a good-as-gold road win to open the Top 16. One player who had everything to do with that timely surge by Panathinaikos, point guard Jaka Lakovic, has been named the Euroleague MVP of the Month for February. Lakovic was remarkably proficient when Panathinaikos needed him most. In the entire month, Lakovic missed only one shot that was not a three-pointer. He also posted his team's highest performance index rating in all three victories. In February's all-important first game, Lakovic scored 18 points to help beat dangerous Ulker and clinch a Top 16 spot. Next, Lakovic scored 21 points without missing a shot against Pau-Orthez as Panathinaikos finished second in regular season Group C. To finish the month, Lakovic was again a model of efficiency with 15 points and a team-high 5 assists in a road win at Zalgiris to start the Top 16. On a team full of veterans, Lakovic plays more minutes than any teammate since emerging as a world-class floor director and fan favorite. For his part in taking Panathinaikos higher every week in a short month, Jaka Lakovic has been chosen the Euroleague MVP for February.

The Euroleague's MVP of the Month honor is one of several new awards approved before the season by the Euroleague Assembly. Although statistics and performance ratings are taken into consideration for the award, they alone do not determine who is honored. The winner is named by the Euroleague based on his and his team's performance during the previous month.

From the moment he stepped into the Euroleague three seasons ago, Lakovic has been an impact player. In just his second game for Krka Novo Mesto, playing on the road against mighty Real Madrid, he set an index rating record of 55 that would last almost two years, and still is tied as the second-best performance ever. Since joining Panathinaikos the next season, Lakovic has been a fixture among the top point guards in Europe. This season has been no exception. Lakovic has led his team in scoring and assists in more than half of its victories this season, twice in each category as Panathinaikos won all three games in February. Lakovic has become one of the surest players in Europe with the game on the line, too, when he can be expected to have the ball in his hands due to his great free throw shooting. During the regular season, only two superstars, Sarunas Jasikevicius and Anthony Parker of Maccabi, made more free throws at a higher rate of accuracy than Lakovic. Other teams in Group F should be aware that Lakovic plays his best when the stakes are highest. During last season's Top 16, he was the weekly MVP once while also ranking fifth in average index rating, sixth in scoring and 10th in steals. This season, while Panathinaikos has been beset by injuries and player changes, Jaka Lakovic has been the steadiest force in putting the Greens in position to attempt a return to the Final Four.

The MVP of the Month is a new award that replaces the MVP of the Regular Season and the MVP of the Top 16. The MVP of the Month will be awarded through the end of the new playoff round following the Top 16, therefore a total of six monthly MVPs will be honored during the 2004-2005 season. Lakovic will receive the award at an upcoming Panathinaikos home game

Ρε τον Γιάκα...... ότι πρέπει για να μας σπάσει τώρα τα νεύρα με τα τρίποντα του....

Πάντως δεν ξέρω τις επιδόσεις των άλλων παικτών της Euroleague για να κρίνω αν είναι δίκαιη η ανάδειξη του ως κορυφαίου παίκτη, άλλα νομίζω ότι σε αυτό συνέσφερε το μεγάλο διπλό στην Λιθουανία, με πολύ καλή απόδοση άπο τον ζουμπά....

Όχι...σε αυτό συνέβαλε κυρίως η νίκη στην Γαλλία επί της Ορτέζ.

Τα ποσοστά του εκείνη τη βραδιά αν θυμάσαι ήταν εξωπραγματικά (21 πόντοι, 4/4 δίποντα, 2/2 τρίποντα, 7/7 βολές + 4 ασίστ....και μόνο 2 λάθη ).

Και όντως, τώρα θα σουτάρει τρίποντα από... το κέντρο!!

πολύ καλός παίκτης, με λίγη σοβαρότητα θα έπαιζε ΝΒΑ. αλλά ώρες ώρες κάνει οτι του κατέβει.

εχει κ η τρελα του την πλακα της! αν δεν ηταν "λιγκο τρελο" (sportime) δεν μπορουμε να ξερουμε πως θα ηταν... ισως ομως να μην ηταν καλυτεροσ... κατι του δινει κ η τρελα του...
