AEK will look to revive its season when it hosts Gran Canaria on Tuesday in Athens, Greece. AEK (1-4) has lost three straight by an average of 21 points and is in danger of falling out of the race for a spot in the elimination rounds. Last week AEK went down 76-102 at home to Group A leader Lietuvos Rytas. Gran Canaria (3-2) defeated Brose Baskets 80-67 this week and is only one game out of first place. When these teams met in Week 1, center Jackson Vroman was the only Gran Canaria scorer in double figures as the coach Salvador Maldonado used a total team effort to win 63-57. Four different players have led Gran Canaria in scoring this season and only once has a player surpassed the 20-point mark. There are 11 different players averaging at least 12 minutes per game and top scorers Jim Moran and Sitapha Savane average only 9.6 points per game. A different player has led AEK in scoring in each game, with forward Nestoras Kommatos (10.8 ppg.) and guards Ioannis Gkagkaloudis (10.8 ppg.) and Nikos Vetoulas (10.2 ppg.) the top scorers. Gran Canaria (69.8 ppg.) and AEK (71.4 ppg.) are two of the lowest scoring teams in the ULEB Cup. The biggest difference in the teams statistically is in rebounds, where Gran Canaria averages 36.6 rebounds and AEK just 27.4. Gran Canaria took 16 offensive rebounds in the first game and won the battle of the boards 43-28. That makes the performance of players like Brent Scott (9.2 ppg., 4.4 rpg.), Jasmin Perkovic and Kommatos against the likes of Kornel David (8.4 ppg., 4.8 rpg.), Vroman (8.6 ppg., 5.8 rpg.) and Savane vital to AEK's hopes as another rough night on the glass could spell defeat for the home team.
